reeling.

OK... this post is SUPER outdated, but i decided to add on to it and put it up anyway. the first bullet took place almost a whole month ago...

• Wednesday (17 Feb) - "lost" my job in a matter of 4 working days, and it wasn't even really my fault... don't wanna talk about it. BITCHHHHHHHH.
• Thursday (18 Feb)- karaoke-d with Lovely, Gracer, Aeron + beau, and of course, Ferdi
• Saturday (20 Feb) - paid a visit to Ferdi's "2nd home", got a whiff of blood agar base (it's a pale yellow powder which contains cow liver...), pipetted cow's blood, and spilled chocolate blood agar in a fume cupboard. second half of the day involved Nuttella and pineapple tart ice cream at Island Creamery, and apple pie milkshake. i swear, it's ALWAYS worth the effort getting there, my love handles can attest to that.
• Mon-Thurs (22-25 Feb)- job hunting online
• Thurs evening (25 Feb)- paid Lady Tara and her folks a CNY visit, had steamboat as per their standard CNY practice. Ferdi had some really good whiskey to drink and a whole lot more to say. Rara and i just chilled in her room while she ranted about her recent breakup. her dad and i were pretty convinced that relationships were about percentages. with Geeky, it was a 40-60, no way would it have worked out.
• Friday evening (26 Feb) - had buffet dinner with Team Rose at Cafebiz. it was nice to see the team again and have good food at the same time. still, i felt like an insider and an outsider all at once.
• Friday (5 Mar) - went with Ferdi for a free trial at a makeover/studio/event photography place. we started off with a talk with one of their "image consultants" who in my opinion, needs some retraining. she wanted us to do this lame angel-devil thingy and tried to make me wear a stupid satin corset-like dress with a tutu under it. in all honesty, that was probably a glorified piece of porno lingerie. so... i made my stand and she took out the all-black, form-fitting lace dress you see in the pics. Ferdi's hair and makeup took all of 5 minutes but i was on the seat for a good half hour, with several people fussing over various parts of my head. one of the more senior staff walked by and commented that i had the potential to look like a Japanese goth doll, hence the makeup. after that, we went for the photo shoot. the photographer was funny as hell, and i'm glad he was, cos he put us at ease. but of course, after the whole thing, there had to be a catch: they were trying to sell us an album package with lifetime membership and privileges such as spas, free photo shoots, makeup or photography courses etc, but we didn't bite. still, we walked out as free man and woman, with a complimentary CD containing 2 of the 43 pics taken during the shoot. pwned them. ;)

empty promises abound. decades of thankless favours and chores. seven thousand three hundred cans and eight thousand three hundred and ninety-five despairing nights later, you'd think resolution was at hand. clucking bell.

the slingshot constantly reloaded, but the aims are vain. golems don't flinch at pebbles, silly.

the pursuant lets his arms fall to his side as the golem lumbers on. surely one has better things to do with one's life than to fight a lost battle with no moral implications. surely one is not obliged to put aside one's happiness indefinitely for another that rarely, if ever, recognises what his keeper has done for him. surely one has suffered enough in two decades to put one's foot down and move on.

if only you'd make good on your promise and take your selfish soul (or lack thereof) far, far away. fuck you very much.

my resolutions for 2010

1. complete a full marathon!!!
2. fulfill my promises to Ferdi e.g. bake more often
   
3. be more efficient and productive i.e. sleep less and do more faster
   
4. spend less time in malls and more in nature sites
5. be more thrifty! - i suppose i shall write a separate post on sneaky ways for the underpaid yuppies to save moolah ;)
   
6. hone photography skills
   
7. read more than 50 books this year (that works out to 1 a week?! i might have to rethink this one...)
8. be more caring to my family and friends
9. travel more e.g. visit a volcano (i really don't see how this helps #5)
10. have the discipline to see my resolutions through

the Snorer

Everyone has stories to tell, some interesting, others not so. Mine's about a guy I like to refer to as the Snorer.

The Snorer catches the same bus everyday and sits in the same seat in the same position: with his knees folded up against the seat in front. His mouth is always slightly ajar and his beady eyes shut tight. How do I know if his eyes are beady, you're asking. Well, this is a perfect illustration of literary licence.

Back to the Snorer. You'd have inferred by now that he's sleeping on the bus. Not that it's a crime, he just makes the bus ride a little less dignified for himself and a little more unpleasant for others.

The problem for me, is that I happen to like sitting in the same area as he: near the back of the second deck in a window seat. That's because the sun is least able to blind you with its morning brilliance in that area of the bus. So... I often end up sitting pretty close to the Snorer, becoming an unwilling audience of his personal symphony.

Today, to protect the sanctity of my morning commute, I traded the best seat in the house for somewhere less ideal in terms of shade, but infinitely more tranquil.

I guess this is where my snory ends, till next time.
